19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to create a decider.

Moutet saved four early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
