The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
