The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
